Centre of Hainaut
La Louvière was born in the mid-14th century, when surface coal mining went on to bring about the rapid industrial and urban development of what was then merely a hamlet. Today, La Louvière is above all a destination that’s highly esteemed for its extraordinary UNESCO-listed industrial heritage: the canal of the Historic Centre, its boat lifts and the old Bois-du-Luc coal mine.
